Runners Wild is not just a trail run. We are a movement to empower rural communities using trail running and other outdoor sports.
Runners Wild was created in 2014, as a trail run that would seek to empower rural communities by training volunteers from these communities on creating sustainable new economies based around organizing sporting events.
The first trail race was organized in the highlands of Bario, in Sarawak state in Malaysia. The first race was held on May 2015 and the last race in the series ended in May 2017.
In that period, the community in Bario and the surrounding villages of Pa Lungan, Pa Ukat worked together with us to organize 3 races over a 3 year period. Since then, some of the Bario folk have continued to organize their own trail running race in Bario.
Runners Wild is now working on it’s second initiative since 2019, working with youth groups, a monastery and a school in Ladakh in the Himalayas.
There is no run at the moment because of covid, but the time is now being used to engage with, and work with the local community there.
Runners Wild is owned by Specialized Sports Services, based in Singapore and Malaysia.
